McMaster Children’s Hospital has been providing care to children from across the region since 1988. Here, patients ranging in age from infancy to 17 receive care through a family-centred approach that accounts for the child’s emotional, mental and physical well-being.
The hospital is home to the fastest-growing kids-only emergency department in Ontario, one of Canada’s most advanced neonatal intensive care units, and a range of programs and clinics with unique expertise in a number of areas including children’s cancer, digestive diseases, and mental health.
McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC) has a longstanding history of providing world-class healthcare to people within Hamilton and from across Ontario. In 1972 the centre opened in the Health Sciences Building, owned by McMaster University, where the university-hospital collaboration set the stage for a strong tradition of teaching future generations of healthcare providers.
The MUMC site is home to a range of adult specialty clinics and day surgery, as well as a nationally-recognized digestive diseases care and research programs. The Boris Clinic provides care for adult patients, brings together several medical specialties under one roof to provide “one-stop shopping” to patients with multiple health needs. MUMC also hosts one of Ontario’s largest labour & delivery programs as well as gynecology care, sharing its campus with McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH). Adult radiologists meet the needs of the adult population at MUMC, including fluoroscopic studies, radiography, ultrasound, CT and MRI. Team members also provide some on-site coverage for adult interventional work. Adult imaging works alongside but independent from the dedicated pediatric imaging team at MCH.
The Juravinski Hospital is best known as the host hospital for the Regional Cancer Program. In addition to multiple inpatient and outpatient services for cancer patients, the Juravinski Hospital is also a general medical/surgical hospital with a community Emergency Department. Joint replacement surgery and care for hip fractures is subspecialized at the site. The CIBC Breast Assessment Centre is also located on site, providing comprehensive breast imaging care for our community. The Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the Juravinski Hospital services the above programs. The site resources include a 3.0 T MR, 2 multi slice CTs, ultrasound, interventional and general imaging suites. Our faculty members have expertise and fellowship training in oncology/cross-sectional imaging, body imaging, musculoskeletal, interventional and breast imaging. We have a close working relationship with our clinical colleagues and offer teaching and training experiences for undergraduate medical students, residents and clinical fellows.
Founded in 1848, Hamilton General Hospital (HGH) was the first hospital in Hamilton. It is home to a number of Hamilton Health Sciences’ key regional referral programs. The cardiac and vascular program performs more heart surgeries and procedures than any other facility in the province. The neurosciences and trauma program is a provincial leader in both volume and complexity of care provided. The stroke program has pioneered an integrated approach to care, and the burn treatment program is one of only two in Ontario.
In addition to providing leading-edge care, HGH is strongly connected to its neighbourhood and supports outreach activities aimed at helping to enhance the quality of life in the surrounding community.
