Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The Department of Radiology at McMaster University is committed to promoting and sustaining a culture of inclusive excellence, recognizing the critical role that diversity of identity, background and perspective play in harnessing creativity and innovation, and the importance of building inclusive and collegial teams within our community.

Our faculty supports the institution-wide effort to consider the ways that we attract, engage and support students, faculty, and staff, apply a critical lens to our organizational structures and processes, innovate within our research and academic programs, and foster a community ethos and approach that is based on dignity, respect, and inclusion for all.

McMaster’s EDI Strategy is a roadmap to ensure an intentional approach to identifying and achieving institution-wide equity, diversity, and inclusion priorities and goals.

McMaster’s EDI StrategyTowards Inclusive Excellence includes:

  • an EDI Framework for Strategic Action, with four pillars and areas of focus and impact
  • six Principles for Best Practice to guide planning and implementation
  • 2019 – 2022 Action Plan, with detailed tactics to achieve six strategic objectives

Over the coming year, the Academic Department of Radiology will work to strengthen our cultural competency and commitment by establishing a Departmental Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Committee.  This Committee will identify key goals and objectives for our Department to support the health and well-being of our faculty, foster a sense of belonging, and enhance our commitment to incorporate the University’s EDI Strategy in everything we do.

To start, the Department’s EDI Committee will find meaningful ways to:

  • We will be purposeful about embedding diversity, equity and inclusion in our departmental processes and affairs, including recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Strengthen our faculty member’s understanding of, and commitment to, the McMaster EDI Strategy by developing a faculty education plan.
