The Nuclear Medicine Fellowship program at McMaster University offers Clinical Fellowships in 2 main pathways:
- Nuclear Cardiology/Hybrid imaging with both SPECT imaging and PET/CT nuclear cardiology including Calcium Scoring.
- Oncological PET/CT.
- Combined: General nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology, oncology PET, and radionuclidic therapy.

The minimal eligibility requirements:
Clinical Fellows are postgraduate trainees who have completed residency training and obtained specialty or subspecialty certification before the fellowship appointment date. Candidates are returning to postgraduate medical education for an educational experience beyond certification requirements. Clinical Fellows are required to be sponsored by contracts. Training undertaken during fellowship appointments is not credited toward RCPSC certification and no exam is written at the end of clinical fellowship.
Clinical Responsibilities
Clinical fellows receive a breadth of experience in applications of PET/CT and SPECT/CT imaging, in oncology or cardiology, as well as other relevant specialities. The patient volume is sufficient for well-rounded training for both pathways. Fellows will be rotating between different locations, each of which offer a different mix of cases and experience. The fellow will be responsible for obtaining a directed history, collecting relevant clinical data of patients, and determine the suitability for the ordered test. Clinical information and scan interpretation will be documented in reports under the supervision of the attending physician. Fellows will learn sufficient experience in tracer administration, acquisition and processing of imaging data during the fellowship. No on-call duties are required from our clinical fellows.
Educational Responsibilities
Fellows will be engaged and work closely with staff, other fellows, and residents from other departments including radiology and cardiology departments. Clinical Fellows will be involved in resident and medical student teaching. They will attend different regional weekly, biweekly, and monthly regional rounds according to the pathway they are taking. Fellows are also encouraged to attend and present in other department rounds, multidisciplinary tumor boards and conferences.
Research
Research is encouraged within the fellowship program. Delegated time can be made available at an average of one academic day per week throughout the year.
